    NFL Re-design (L1 files available)

Post by admiral66 on Sun Jan 24, 2010 4:15 pm

I recently started to redo some NFL uniforms, fueled by a thread in the sports logo concepts forum at Chris Creamer's website. Though the changes are ground breaking, they do have some subtle changes that just made a huge impression on me, so I was driven to start to take those concepts and incorporate them for this game. So here's the Cowboys.

Nothing noticeable, which I mention in the document.

Here's the Saints away versions. I posted the home version in another thread. There's also a home alternate version with a gold jersey and white pants.

That's it for now. I did start with the easier ones. These three will be available soon.

I'm working on a tweak for the pants template. The crotch is just a tad high.

Thanks for the compliments q1storm. I really can't explain how this guy's work had that much an effect on me wanting to do this. Like I said, maybe I just got bored with the status quo and wanted a project to undertake.
I've started on the Jets, hopefully uploading those soon.

For those interested: on that same board there's a thread called "My (Personal) Football League" in which someone's totally creating a league - the names, logos, script, uniforms - from scratch and that could possibly inspire someone to do some fantasy team creating. Might want to check that out.
Also, going back to the NFL theme, there's another thread where the NFL is going through a re-design via the popular (or maybe not so popular) Nike Pro Combat series that was unveiled for teams like Ohio St, TCU, LSU and Florida late in the season. I was thinking on doing those sometime down the line.

Yep found the personal league stuff

    does have problems though,
As the work belongs to this young kid (logo's the lot) we really cant use them without permission.

I signed up to be able to contact him
but their seems to be some issues with the profiles etc. (I arnt even allowed to veiw my own Suspect )
    so cant contact him

No doubt we'd have to get permission. But I personally wasn't going to do that unless I finished this project first. I guess one thing I could be accused of is trying to nonchalantly trying to create some kind of pub for the game Suspect .

Now for some sad news: as I know others have experienced this, my work laptop's registry was victimized yesterday. Sad
All my working uniforms and databases were on there, because I was out of town so much, that it benefited me to have them on it. The irony is I was about to turn in the computer this week because after 21 years I decided to leave for a another job where the travel wouldn't be as rampant. I had planned to move everything over today, but alas what's done is done. I'll be downloading the proper tools in order to catch up on things starting tomorrow. So needless to say no uniforms for a day or two.

    Later y'all

FINALLY! After getting my bearings straight and being frustrated by my stadium project and another uniform redesign I've decided to scale back and get an easier uniform posted. Here's the slightly redesigned NY Giants:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Nothing much to speak of, but making a border around the numerals and the helmet logo, changing the wordmark from the "NY" logo to the "GIANTS" script and adding the "NY" to the right side of the pants.

    I'll have them posted soon.

Yeah, the thing about this guy and his project was that he seemed to know when to hold back. Now I've started the Jets and I'm going to post my first draft I guess in a little bit. I know you were curious and believe me when I saw the finished product I had to laugh. You'll see what I mean. But I have to download this a little later today.

When I did the Jets here was the first draft which I haven't changed yet, but seriously, if you were a football player, would you really want to wear this?

    easily fix Bro
take the same pant design lines and spacing
Keep the length but reduce the width and keep reducing it until it looks right

scratch somewhere between 25 to 50 pixels width would be around the right mark I think
then re-connect the black line acrorss the ass

    EDIT:-
Then you should end up with something like this
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

which looks a whole load more like the look ya' aiming for I think
stick at it Bro you'll get it, you've gotten so much better in such a short space of time.

Right Big Smooth. Mykal did do a nice tweak. I tried it on mine and it worked, but I'm not ready to release them just yet. I was under the weather a bit today and I finished the Jets and Bills and started work on the Dolphins set. What I'm planning to do is finish them and Patriots and release the AFC East at once.
Again good suggestion. Didn't think of "squeezing" the width.
I'll post the tweak in a bit.

    Here's the finished NY Jets:

And here's the Buffalo set. As you can probably tell I'm very biased on putting the team's word mark above the numerals. I just like the look. Smile

I agree Big Smooth. The thing I kept re-stating to the guy who did the concept was that I really appreciated the way he seemed to combine the elements of current uniforms with elements of past uniforms and in some cases logos, as was the case for Buffalo. The helmet from the pre-Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas days were my favorite and just when I got use to the red helmet they really screwed things in my mind with the most recent changes.
He did this with Washington and my personal favorite was Tampa Bay. He took the current logo scheme and implemented it into the original creamsicle uniforms but then changed it to a red helmet/jersey pattern instead. When I get to that team, though I'll use the original scheme.

Very very nice. On the Bills......The logo looks waaaaay better on a white helmet.

Speaking of redesigns. For whatever reason this guy cooked up three helmet designs. The Pats, Bucs and Skins. I thought they were pretty cool. I think each one is an improvement over what they currently use.

The AFC East is available for download. I also cleaned it up a bit to where the divisions, 2009 updates and field art have their own window.

I'm going to check this link out mudrick.

EDIT: I went over to that site and the Redskins and Bucs are pretty decent but that Patriots update Suspect I don't quite get where they're going with that one.

Thanks for sharing the link, mudrick. His Skins and Pats redesigns are aweful and don't really encompass the history of the teams. But, did like his simple design on the Bucs, although I think they might have to fight the Raiders again, in court, if the try to use the cross-swords through the skull. Fun read.

I'll give you my personal opinion on the designs. My personal favorite Redskins helmet was when they used just the spear. Which is why in my solo league that is what they wear. I think admiral did it.......i love it and is what I use. I thought the new one on the site was cool. Thats all.

The Bucs helmet I loved. Either the Raiders or the Bucs should have done this a long time ago. Skull and cross swords or cross bones it doesn't matter. I think the Raiders have too long of a history to change. So IMO the Bucs should do something along those lines.

I personally like the old Patriots unis over their new ones. But this new design really looks nice. As far as the helmet on the site is concerned, I kind of like it. Look what they have now. I know it's kind of a 60's throwback but it is flashy. But my hope would be that the Pats would go back to their old unis and maybe sharpen it up a bit.

The Bills remake was genius. No way anyone can say what they currently use or what they have used in the past was better. The mix between the two eras is absolutely perfect. It would be one of the best uniforms in the league if they actually adopted it.

I had the NFL database q1storm, but it was stored on my work laptop and before I could transfer it the hard drive crapped out. I thought I had sent it to Gemini, but I think I sent the wrong one. I think I sent him my UFL database by accident! Embarassed Nonetheless, I started a new one and all I have are the teams themselves set up. I just learned how to access the data from open office and this could allow me to move quicker, but I haven't sat down and dedicated a good few hours to even get started back on it.
As far as the L1 files I was thinking on doing that and packaging by themselves, which I wouldn't do until I'm finished this whole set. I did think about doing a basic set of art files, with the mid field art being the team logos, the goalpost padding being the NFL logo on a dark blue background and the endzone art modeled after the Super Bowl style with a colored background and the team word mark within it, but without the logos flanking them. I didn't know if people would want them, so I held off but since it's been put out there, I just might do it all the way.

Of course people would want them. Those of us that can't make logos and have to scrounge around to find anything. Very Happy

Nothing is worse than having unis but having to resort to ye ol' MF logo!

I'm liking these, the remind me of Mykals 2027 uniforms except these are more like 2015. They are really cool and I think I might play some MFB with these.

Go for it dude. I don't mind when somebody offers to take some slack. Most of them don't have to be changed, for the moment only Tampa would be the most involved.

Well done! Except for one minor detail - the Jets logo is different than the one you've made and it should look like this:

Not to nit pick, but you did get the Tampa and New England helmets spot on, so I figure we go all the way with this. Wink

Alright guys, I need some feedback on this one. I'm doing the Carolina uniforms and although the redesign has a black helmet, I can't seem to go with that particular design, so I made another with the familiar silver helmet. I have a picture of the two side-by-side to see the difference.

So in the purest form of democracy, which would you prefer? I could package them altogether, but I don't want to go beyond 4 uniforms in the set (home, away and alternates for both). I'll give this until Wednesday to see what you think.

Tomorrow I'll be celebrating Mardi Gras with my family jocolor so I'm taking the day off from MaxFB, lol. Anyways, I'll see y'all in a couple days, and to those in the UK - Happy Pancake Day, is it?

Definitely black. It just looks sharper in my opinion. Although gray is also well done Wink

Just wanted to add, I'm definitely loving all these redesigns, Admiral. I haven't tried to use MaxFB for any NFL gaming yet, but if I ever do in the future I think this will be my first stop. For now, they're simply eye candy for me! Very Happy

Go ahead and send what you have. I've been lacking on any wireless signal the last two days so I couldn't drop in the last two days (I bum the next door neighbor's wi-fi silent so my time is limited in some ways). I'll try and take your lead on how you did these, noticing you use MG's helmets - best ones out there.
But don't worry man, you didn't let me down, you did what you could and you didn't have to do that.
