    Uniform editing with GIMP

Post by Ben_Dakota on Wed Feb 17, 2010 5:59 am

Hey all in the MFB community...

I'm a poor college student who doesn't have the big bucks to shell out for a proper PhotoShop/PaintShop program to edit uniforms. So far, I've just been using Microsoft Paint to make unis, and while I'm happy with them and like how they look in-game, sometimes I can't help but look at the other brilliant creations in the Graphics thread and feel a little jealous of their pristine wrinkles and padding forms... Very Happy

I think I read (in this forum or another) about someone using the free program GIMP to do the layering functions necessary for producing these realistic-looking unis, but I haven't explored the program much since using it once or twice in 9th grade. Has anyone here used GIMP before for dealing with layers? And if so, is it feasible to use with MFB unis?

When I was first introduced to the game I knew I wanted to work with customizing unis and such. I didn't know about GIMP so I went out to one of the cheap software websites and found a version of Paintshop Pro for $40.00, I have been using it for almost two years now on my PC with no problems. It has help me to edit unis and stadiums and such. I could not find the exact site I purchased mine from but I found these versions of photoshop and paintshop pro for $40.00 and $47.00 respectively, only thing is it looks like the Photoshop software may not work with Vista...But at the end of the day GIMP is free.

GIMP is almost as good as professional tools - at least for all private purposes and GIMP works very will with W7. One of the differences should be that Photoshop has much more plugins which offers additionally functionality.

I use Gimp as well and it can do just about anything you need for graphics within the game. A little (or a lot of) trial and error never hurts.

Thanks for all your encouragement, fellas. I've downloaded GIMP and started fooling around with it.

Another question (maybe those of you more versed in GIMP-ing can help me): I have some .bmp images that I use for uniforms now; is there a way to copy, say, a U1 file from a bitmap into a layer on GIMP so that I can texture-ize it?

**Goes back to tinkering with GIMP...**
