    Individualizing stadium wall textures

Post by Ben_Dakota on Wed Aug 03, 2011 6:08 am

So, I got the idea to add some advertisements to the walls of the stadiums I use for MFB, to spice up the game and give each team's home field a unique flavor. However, when I opened up the stadium file for Local8h's Merenge Double Deck Stadium and changed the S30 file (the wall texture) to be a different texture every time it appeared in the .txt file, not every piece of the wall was individualized. That is, the long sides of the stadium (running along the sidelines) repeated the same texture several times. I'm not a Gamespace guru, but I could tell that either the stadium data file was "tiling" the texture several times along the sideline wall or the sideline wall was made up of multiple pieces that all received their texture from the same line in the .txt file code.

Does anyone out there with more stadium-building knowledge than me know how to individualize these pieces of the wall?

Yes... this is how its done

open the stadiumdata text file using notepad
carefully search through the file until you find the reference S30 (or what ever the graphic is called)
as you search through you will notice that their are several references to the same s30.bmp

    I rename them like this, s30, s30a, s30b, s30d etc. etc.
then go back into what ever paint tool you are using and reproduce the s30 graphic giving each duplicate the names s30, s30a, s30b and so on

    then you'll be done

hope that makes sense to ya Smile

Thanks Mykal. That's actually what I did the first time, but when I loaded the stadium in MFB each of the four side walls still had a texture that repeated itself several times along the wall. Granted, the repeating texture was different for each of the four walls, but I was wondering if there was a way to eliminate the tiling effect and make all of the textures along each wall individual. That way, I could have "GO KNIGHTS" written on one part of the wall without having "GHTS GO KNIGHTS GO KNIGHTS GO KNIGHTS GO KNIGHTS GO K" all across the sideline.

Unfortunately thats the way Gil (Local8h) made them and theirs nothing you can do with that
unless you get a little into gamespace
dropping a new texture just infront of it would do the trick.

Gary's stadiums are somewhat easier to customise because he uses one large texture that covers the whole of one side.

I think the repeating part is what kills it. Thats why I tried not to use it. Most graphics cards now can handle the bigger image files, so my huge-mongous stadium walls shouldnt cause anyone any grief.
